Love is contagious. What is modeled by those who know the Author of Love is, in turn, emulated by those who follow. Mohamed came to know the love of Christ through the combined efforts of at least six partnering organizations in the North Africa Partnership. An underground church sprang up in a matter of months in his home, and many from his extended family soon came to faith.
When a young man from this fellowship fell ill, it was Mohamed who sat by his bedside in a Moroccan public hospital to feed and bathe the sick brother. A beggar from the street was soon placed in the large “poor man’s” ward in the bed next to Mohamed. Without family or friends, this crippled beggar had no one to feed or care for him, and no “tip” money for the nurses with which to request care. Seeing the need, Mohamed took on the distasteful job. Pulling back the sheets, he found the man lying in his own filth, now infested with maggots. Against all Islamic convention, Mohamed took bucket, soap, and water and “contaminated” himself with another man’s feces as he slopped up the mess and washed the beggar clean. Amazed to revulsion by this act toward a stranger, others in the ward began to cast insults and mock Mohamed. With disgust in his voice one man called out, “What are you, a Christian or something?” Mohamed wore the rebuke as a badge of honor. He loved as he had been loved.
